Many people don?t realize that there is an American Heart Month (February) every year in which businesses and governments participate in raising awareness about various heart health issues. In many cases governments will run public service announcements in an attempt to educate the public on a large scale. Businesses have been known to get more involved and bring the plight of heart disease and other heart related issues into the public eye and sometimes offer deals on heart candies and the like, even though they aren?t the healthiest heart food.

However, if you want to get involved with Heart Month more than you already are, there are a few steps that you can take in order to ensure that you are treating your heart right for at least one month a year. First, you can start by eating healthier and working out more. This can be as simple as bran muffin and taking the stairs in the morning or it could be as much as a complete diet redesign to eliminate fatty foods and three extra hours of exercise every day.

Also, take your Valentine out to a healthy dinner that allows you to both connect, have fun and not hurt your heart. Another easy thing is to wear read; the first Friday in February is known as ?Wear Red Day?. This is designed to bring more attention to the meaning of Heart Month and is a simple, yet effective, way to show your support for this great purpose. Finally, get out and get involved in your community; you can put together charity auctions, sponsored walks and even just a community barbecue with heart healthy food.
