Here are some statistics I found online about the problems with heart disease and why it is important to give to the volunteers of Heart Month.

Heart month was started by the American Heart Association to help the nation realize the dangers of an unhealthy heart and unhealthy lifestyle leading to heart problems and to raise funds to help those patients that are in desperate need of medical help.

Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer in the United States of America partly because America has a nation that is vastly overweight. This includes heart disease and stroke as two main killers of Americans.

Heart month is to raise awareness about heart attacks, high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. All of these are caused by excessive eating, drinking and smoking which clog the arterial pathways which lead to an overworked heart.

Your heart is required to pump oxygen rich blood all around the body to fuel the muscles and the brain cells. If the pathway is blocked then you are more likely to suffer a heart attack or a stroke from a burst embolism or blood vessel in the brain. This can sometimes cause instant death.

The collections gather during heart month are used to purchase machines and monitors that can test our heart condition to see how damaged it is. Non invasive tests include the electrocardiogram and the exercise ECG. More invasive testing includes blood tests and echocardiogram stress tests.

Rehabilitation is another area that is aided by the collections of heart month. It does take some time to rehabilitate some people and funding often is used to help them to recover. The main goals of rehabilitation are to monitor the heart for any signs of weakness and to prevent any further cardiac problems.
